After a series of protests and online demonstrations on Twitter targeting the United Arab Emirates immigration authorities, National Unity Platform party president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine has been released.
Several Ugandans had started contacting the UAE embassies tasking them to clarify on circumstances under which Bobi Wine was detained, his passport and phones confiscated and grilled for over 8 hours.
The UAE however succumbed to pressure after hours of concerns from Ugandans and Africans across the world and ordered the Dubai immigration to clear Bobi Wine to proceed with his charity concert.
After 12 hrs,( 8:30pm to 9:30am) I’ve been finally allowed into Dubai. Hoping that our charity concert, which seemed to be the source of these issues, will be allowed to proceed. We’re only trying to raise awareness and assist the many Ugandan and African Immigrant workers. pic.twitter.com/r9TZd01pXL
