The Mityana Municipality member of parliament has trashed reports shared to the United Nations indicating that he was compensated a victim of torture by the government of Uganda. Below is a statement he shared on his social media platforms confirming that he wasn’t compensated as it had to be.
I have read media reports about a report submitted to the United Nations by the Uganda regime claiming to have compensated me for the multiple incidents of torture that security operatives have subjected me to for opposing dictatorship, Hon Zaake shared on his socials
“NO, I HAVE NEVER BEEN COMPENSATED FOR TORTURE!
I have read media reports about a report submitted to the United Nations by the Government of Uganda claiming to have compensated me for the multiple incidents of torture that security operatives have subjected me to for opposing dictatorship.
Whereas I am unable to verify the authenticity of the report insofar as it refers to me, I wish to make it categorically clear that I have never been compensated as apparently claimed by the Government of Uganda.
Most importantly, the regime should know that no amount of compensation can ever make up for the wanton and deliberate violation of citizens’ rights — the same way no amount of torture is going to force us to abandon our mission of restoring freedom in Uganda.
Rather than being boxed into making false claims of compensation so as to clean up it’s battered image, the best course for the regime to take in these circumstances is to change behaviour and respect our rights as citizens.
