Museveni meets Russian ambassador

President Yoweri Museveni has today met the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Uganda, H.E Vladlen Semivolos.

Through his official Twitter handle, Museveni said; “This afternoon, I met H.E Vladlen Semivolos, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Uganda. We discussed issues of mutual interest.”

Museveni did not divulge the exact details of the meeting. However, Russia and Uganda have had strong relationships for years as the two countries are long-time allies.

Meanwhile, the meeting comes just a day after Uganda abstained from voting as the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The resolution title “Aggression against Ukraine”, was backed by 141 of the assembly’s 193 members, with five votes against the resolution and 35 abstentions.

Though Uganda has not formally stated its stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First Son and commander of Land Forces through his known Twitter handle suggested that Russia had valid “security” reasons to invade Ukraine.
