NUP Leaders Want Mathias Mpuuga to Replace Bobi Wine, Say Party Turned Into Family Project

The National Unity Platform grass root leaders have called for a change in the party top leadership if the party is to survive and grow its strength country wide.
This was raised during a meeting for the regional coordinators across the country at the party headquarters in Kamwokya a Kampala suburb.

According to the grass root party leaders, the current top leadership is concentrating on self-aggrandisement instead of building party structures noting that the current Party president and his secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya doesn’t know what they are doing.

Leaders confined to this website after the meeting that Hon Mathias Mpuuga would be a better candidate to lead the party than Bobi Wine whom they accuse of spending most of his time on the plane with his family and his fire base friends.

Several party coordinators and leaders from various regions and institutions emphasized the need for structures if the party is to survive and grow its strength to compete against the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Elly Masereka, one of the NUP coordinators and former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) member in the Rwenzori sub-region, said party structures are important for mobilization.

“We need structures at the grass root level to easily coordinate our activities, he noted.
Masereka, who stood as an independent for Busongora North Constituency during the 2021 elections and lost said, FDC was the dominant party in Kasese, but the biggest challenge was “ as we were chasing change; other areas were not doing the same,” Thus making their work harder.

“ I challenge NUP Members to embrace their ideology,” Masereka noted.
The guild president of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Justus Mugenyi, who is also a mobiliser for NUP in Mbarara, said, ”there is need to establish structures in Western Uganda for better mobilization and coordination.”

“During my campaigns, I moved a lot and realized we had no supporters. We do not need to concentrate on the central region alone. If we enhance our structures broadly, I am sure we can get what we want,” he added.
However, in his response, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the party President, said,” We are not doing politics as usual.” He said their agenda as NUP is to cause change of Leadership.

Kyagulanyi explained that NUP is just a political wing of the people power movement, which is the voice of the people.
“Defecting from NRM is not enough, but working for Ugandans is what matters.” When you join NUP you do not serve NUP, but your work is to serve the people you represent. He added.

The NUP President said the party is ready to work with all forces of change that are working towards the same cause.
