NUP speak out on Kibalama saga

The leadership of the National Unity Platform party yesterday responded to renewed criticism by the founding leadership of the party headed by Moses Nkonge Kibalama and his group. At the start of the week, the Kibalama group held a presser in Mbalala, Mukono where they came up with a list of demands that included the admission of the party to the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue-IPOD, and a re-set up of the apparent structures.

The Kibalama group even reportedly announced that is had dissolved the recognized Kamwokya structure headed by Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert (party president) and the secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya.
Addressing a presser yesterday, the NUP party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi responded to a question raised by a Baba TV journalist who inquired if these renewed protests would not in any way affect the party activities.

“Leadership is transitional and changes every 5 years. We usually have a delegates conference where party members express interests. Anyone who wishes to vie for any position, should wait for 2025 and offer themselves to be elected,” Ssenyonyi explained.

“Some of the disgruntled members went to court and it issued its verdict on the same. We are not ready to pay attention to non pertinent issues. We have a lot to handle. Whether the government pays some people to keep us diverted, we will not play into their choreography,” he added.

The SG David Lewis Rubongoya urged the press to refrain from paying attention to the obvious. He says media is getting off track by according attention to ‘things that don’t even matter’.
“They (Kibalama group) keep saying this and that. As media, you should not take them serious since they themselves do not conduct themselves in a serious manner. Next time they call you to their press conferences, don’t waste your energy to be part of their humiliation,” he guided.
