The National Unity Platform party is set to shift from its old Kamwokya based head offices after competing the procurement of a spacious site situated in the city centre, in Makerere Kavule Bwaise, Kawempe division.
In a presser held this morning at the new site flooded by the party Secretariat and principal Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, the leadership revealed plans of constructing a storied building at the site which shall host a number of offices.
The party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi says the plan to acquire this site has been underway and only privy to the top party leaders. “Of course given the nature of our country. You don’t have to spill whatever plans you have. We secured this piece of land in a robadob (covert) style,” he said.
He however says shifting the head offices does not mean they will cut ties with the Kamwokya Secretariat. “We are appreciative of the president H.E Kyagulanyi who has for the past four years offered us space rent free. We will continue to use that space for other purposes like retreats and maybe offering leadership trainings and tutorials to our youths,” he added.
At the unveiling, the party secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya revealed that the party has the capacity to secure space in upscale city suburbs like Nakasero or Kololo but they chose the low income suburb of Bwaise in light of the respect for their president whose roots are traceable in the ghetto.
“We chose Bwaise for a purpose. It’s symbolic of our ghetto struggle. We can’t forget our roots where we began,” he said. He added that the initiative is one of the steps to show the party’s accountability. “Those who have been asking about accountability, this is one of the things we’ve done. We have also acquired several regional head offices amounting to ten.
We have also acquired brand new drones that we shall brand with party colors and symbols. We have resorted to owning our own premises so that we avoid rent and clashes with compromised land lords,” he stated. “Getting this space in robadob style shows how we are above Gen. Museveni’s intelligence. This will be our new home on completion. We are grateful to all comrades who have supported this struggle,” he said.
