A 38-year-old Uganda Peoples Defense Force Officer, RA191534 PTE Walimbwa Amis attached to Kibaya Army detach under 35th Battalion in Kisoro district has been arrested for shooting dead Kisoro resident and injuring his fellow UPDF Officer.
The deceased is Nizeyimana Zepherene 20, a resident of Kirwa village, Karambi parish in Nyarubuye sub-county, Kisoro District and the victim is RA 256798 PTE Achia William 40, a karamojong by tribe attached to Kibaya Army detach under 35th Battalion in Kisoro district.
Ip Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson has identified the suspect as RA191534 PTE Walimbwa Amis, a Mugisu by tribe who was on Thursday arrested and is still under the custody of UPDF at Kibaya Army detach.
Maate says that on Thursday at about 11:30 Pm while at Friends Pub Pool table and lodge at Rukundo Trading centre in Nyarubuye sub county, the suspect developed a disagreement with the deceased and was shot in the head dying instantly. Maate adds that as the victim was trying to rescue the deceased, that’s when he was also shot in the leg.
He added that Police were notified, visited and examined the scene, took the body to Kisoro hospital mortuary for post-mortem and victim at Mutolere hospital.
He revealed that Rifle UG UPDF 48008575, one cartridge and a projectile were recovered.
He confirmed to our reporter that the suspect RA 191534 PTE Walimbwa Amis and RA Achia William are both attached to Kibaya Army detach adding that the suspect was arrested and still under custody of UPDF at Kibaya Army detach.
Maate condemned the act of Murder/ Injuring by shooting and said that possible means are being done to ensure that the suspect RA191534 PTE Walimbwa Amis is released from at Kibaya Army detach to Kisoro central Police Station such that inquires can be initiated to ascertain the likely cause of shooting.
A statement of Murder/injury by shooting has been registered at Kisoro central police station Under reference number CRB 338/2022.
