Uganda’s Embassy in Washington, United States has received the body of departed Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanya, for further management.
Uganda’s Ambassador to the United States, Mull Katende traveled to Seattle with a staff member to take charge of the process of returning Oulanya’s body.
Officials said this includes the selection of a funeral home and related processes.
Oulanyah was pronounced dead on Sunday at the University of Washington Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit.
“The body will proceed to a morgue to await funeral arrangements back in Uganda,” said a diplomat who preferred anonymity to speak freely.
In Uganda, the process to elect a new speaker is underway.
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which has majority members in the House, is expected to nominate its candidate for Speakership by Thursday.
The election for Speaker is slated for Friday.
